It’s pretty clear you don’t know that there are snapchat filters that work based on location boundaries provided by GPS. E.G in Cities, countries and at events.

You also don’t know that users on Instagram tag locations of places so that followers can easily find them(those places). It also helps to search and view posts from a particular location. All these are part of the experience when uses these services — finding posts in your city or in a city you would like to visit. Also finding what people are saying about a particular place say a restaurant where you would like to eat.

You seem not to have used these services properly but are only jumping on the media anti-tech bandwagon. You’re also missing how terrible Apple Maps is. In my city, there are are barely places on Apple maps. It gives users wrong directions to places, fails to properly locate places and is just a terrible service for a $1000 phone.
